    How do I get the Chapter number in Table or Figure captions to restart in Appendices using the University thesis template in Word 2011?
    If you have added the Chapter number to your Table or Figure captions they will show as 1.1, 1.2 and so on. This is linked to the numbering used in the Heading 1 style. However, once you get to the Appendices the last Chapter number will continue throughout the Appendices as the Appendix heading isn't Heading 1.

    University of Southampton thesis template for MS Word 2010/2013/2016 (PC) and 2011/2016 (Mac)
    The template is for use with both Word 2010/2013/2016 for PC and Word 2011/2016 for Apple Mac. The template that used to be stored here in EdShare has been moved. Please see the links on the document now stored in this resource. The template provides a structure and format that meets with the University's quality requirements for a thesis such as mirror margins to allow for double-sided printing. It is not compulsory to use the template when writing a thesis, however it's use, in conjunction with the supporting material referenced at the start of the template, will make your thesis well presented and should save you a lot of time and effort. If you have Word 2003 there is a separate template for this version of Word available. Since this is not a University supported version of Office there are no supporting videos.

    Word does not contain a Glossary creation tool, you may find it easiest to just create a the list yourself manually. If you want to use Word then the only tool that can be co-opted to help is the Table of Authorities and this document sets out step by step instructions on how to do this in Word 2011.
